It's a bit of a dance to get multiple monitors to work on certain M1/M2/M3 (Apple Silicon) Macs, but with the proper adapters you can do it.

First, we need to install DisplayLink software to make this all work. We'll push this out to your computer or you can manually install from here

Once installed, you'll get a number of pop ups.

At the top right:

Most importantly, you'll see a prompt to allow DisplayLink to record your screen. You must do this or the extra monitor(s) won't work!

  • Click "open System Settings" or manually navigate there by going to the Apple icon >> System Settings >> Privacy & Security >> Screen & System Recording. (They bury it deep!)
  • Toggle on DisplayLink Manager
  • Quit & Relaunch

Now, make sure your DisplayLink software is showing up in the menubar. If it's not, use LauchPad or Spotlight to launch DisplayLink.

Note that when you plug in the adapter for the first time, you may get a message like below. Be sure to click "allow."

With DisplayLink running, plug in your USB C hub and DisplayLink adapters as shown below.

With all that in place, you should be rocking your multiple external monitors!

Have you done all that and it's still not working? Try this:

  1. Quit the DisplayLink software from the menubar
  2. Unplug the USB C hub from the computer
  3. Unplug the DisplayLink adapter from the USB hub
  4. Unplug the HDMI cable from the DisplayLink adapter
  5. Relaunch the DisplayLink Manager from Applications or using Spotlight or Launchpad
  6. Plug the USB C hub back into the computer
  7. Plug the DisplayLink adapter back into the USB hub
  8. Finally, plug the HDMI cable into the DisplayLink
